What is a makerspace?  A makerspace is an area, or "space," where people invent, learn, and create.  People collaborate and tinker with tools and supplies in the space, learning how things work.  Tinkering is a fun way to incorporate play while encouraging creative thinking and problem-solving skills.  It is responsible for bringing us many of our new technology, and often shows up in new films and art.  One needs both insight and innovation to tinker, and this is a valuable skill in today's job market.

Here are some students tinkering at a makerspace session.

A student puts together a project with Legos.
A student learns about circuits through Little Bits.
Students create their own world through Minecraft.
