This week's FFV is watermelon! Watermelon is thought to have originated in South Africa, where it grows in the wild. Through breeding and cultivating, there are many varieties of watermelon currently available. European colonists in the Americas, as well as African slaves that were shipped to America, brought the watermelon over with them. It is believed that Captain James Cook brought the watermelon over to Hawai'i and other Pacific islands.
