There is no school tomorrow in honor of Veterans Day. Veterans Day started off being called "Armistice Day." An armistice had gone into effect during World War I on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (November 11, 1918) between the Allied Nations and Germany. The next year, President Wilson proclaimed November 11th as a commemoration of Armistice Day with parades and celebrations, stopping all business briefly at 11:00am to remember this day.

In 1938, Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day, and although the day it was celebrated on changed a bit throughout the years, it returned back to November 11 in 1978 and continues to be a federal holiday, no matter what day of the week it falls on. Returning it back to this day not only preserves the historical significance of this date, but also helps to focus on the important purpose of this holiday: "to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good."
