The competition was held from October-December 2016. There were 5,347 teams from 52 countries that signed up to participate. Teams had to code the Dash robot to complete missions related to preserving the animals and the environment. Once a mission was completed, a video of the mission, along with the code, were uploaded so the Wonder Workshop team could view them. The team went through the submissions and gave participating teams points based on the quality of code that was submitted. They were especially looking for smart use of algorithms and sensors, efficient and clean code, and creative problem solving.
