The sixth graders went on a field trip to Monsanto Farms in Kunia. They learned about the parts of a corn plant and even got to dissect a corn seedling. They also learned about the germination process and were able to begin the process for lettuce, marigold, and radish using water beads. They toured the different crop plots, learning about the variety of plants grown on the farms, and they compared insect species, learning the difference between beneficial insects and pests. They even got to observe and hold monarch butterfly caterpillars.
