Our FFVP snack this week is cantaloupe!
Melons are thought to have originated in Asia, with the cantaloupe appearing in the northernmost parts of Africa along the Mediterranean Sea as well as in the Middle East. In fact, to this day, Turkey, Iran, and Egypt remain major producers of cantaloupe. The name cantaloupe, though, comes from the town of Cantaloupo, near Rome, Italy. In addition to the sweet flesh of the fruit, many Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Central & South American countries also dry out the seeds and eat them as snacks.
