The May Day court met on Kūhiō Day to practice but they also planted a lama tree (diospyros sandwicensis).
In old Hawai’i, lama was utilized in areas of learning. Lama symbolizes the essence of enlightenment and to promote memory retention. The wood was also used to build houses to cure the sick and fencing of sacred areas.
This tree was planted as a gift to our Waiʻanae kamaliʻi, from Leihōkū Elementary Principal Mr. Randall Miura. Let this tree mark his legacy of assuring that the keiki of today will be prepared for the future.
