At the pā, or enclosure, in the distance sits the pālehua, an area that was known for its abundance of lehua blossoms. Students learned the cardinal directions of Hema, Hikina, Komohana, and ʻĀkau, in relation to the position of the walls of the pā. Students also learned the history, uses, and stories that surround the pā. The pōhaku, or stones, tell the stories of the Hawaiian Islands, as their positioning and appearance represent that of a map of Hawai'i.
