Our FFV snacks this week are strawberries! Did you know that a strawberry is technically not a berry? It is known as an accessory fruit. Strawberries have always been growing in the wild, but since the 14th century, people have begun taking the strawberry plants from the forests and transplanting them in their gardens. Strawberries were first used as medicine, so people wanted the plant nearby in case they needed it. It has become cultivated worldwide since then, and is used now more for its flavor and scent than for its medicinal value.
