Learning From Our Kūpuna

Mr. Asing, who is the great-grandfather of a second grade student, gave a presentation to the second graders about the hala tree and lei hala. He talked about how the hala tree grows, how to harvest the hala fruit, and how to make a hala lei, while teaching them about the significance of hala in the Hawaiian culture.

You can see the hala fruit on the floor beside the white table that has been broken open to reveal the beautiful orange color inside. That is the only way you can tell what color fruit you're going to get from your tree.
