The first graders went to Lyon Arboretum. Students are able to develop an understanding of plants as living organisms. They can explore the similarities and differences of plants, and they also classify plants by leaves, roots, and stems. They learn the functions of plant parts, and can even plant sunflower seeds to take home and grow! They also get to see a Hawaiian hale structure that is being built on the grounds.
Here, the students are being shown the turkey tail mushrooms that grow there. These mushrooms have been shown to have many immunity-boosting and disease-fighting benefits.
