There is no school on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This holiday is observed on the third Monday of January, near the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929). It is a day is to remember and honor Martin Luther King, Jr. in his quest for gaining racial equality without the use of violence. The federal holiday was first observed in 1986, although some states chose not to observe the day, or combined it with other holidays. The first time all 50 states officially observed the holiday was in 2000.
